Introduction: Setting the Context (30-minutes)

Common Core Standards requires students to be able to achieve rigorous content within a 21st Century Learning context. The summative assessment, the Smarter Balanced Assessment is online, therefore requires students to be proficient in using technology operations and tools including keyboarding, navigation, interpreting graphs and general word processing skills. However, the requirement for students in being able to achieve Common Core Standards goes beyond technology operations into the higher-order thinking skills including analysis, evaluation, collaboration, and communication using digital tools. The Common Core Standards introduction refers to rigorous thinking as described by Webb's Depth of Knowledge matrix. This workshop is designed to give teachers an opportunity to explore digital tools for learning.
